According to the Iroquois legend, the earth's creation story began long ago when the world was covered in deep water and there were no people. The birds witnessed the Chief of the SkyWorld, Skywoman, fall from the sky, and as she fell, she grasped the roots of a tree from heaven. The birds came together and spread their wings to save her, but only the turtle was strong enough to hold her, so they placed her on his back. There, on the turtle's back, Skywoman planted the root, and as her garden grew, the turtle grew in size, first becoming a large island, and then finally, North America.
This design, which is part of our Legendary Collection, pays tribute to the stories and symbols of Native American cultures. Each year, a new USA-made collector's blanket is added to the series, honoring the rich heritage of these communities.
The blanket measures 64" x 80" and is napped and felt bound. It is made of pure virgin wool and cotton, and should be dry cleaned.
